Rules of the Phy-Ed Department

To ensure that all students can have a safe, productive, and fun learning environment for Phy.Ed - the following policies must be adhered to by all students participating in physical education classes at St. Katherine Drexel.

Athletic Shoes Policy

For the students' safety, tennis shoes are required to participate in physical education. Students will be having classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. Please help your student remember to wear (or bring) tennis shoes on those days. Students who come to class without proper shoe wear will not be able to participate for that class session. Sandals, slip ons, boots, crocs, loafers, or dress shoes are not considered proper shoe wear. Remember, the shoe wear policy is in place for your students protection!

Benched Policy

Periodically, a student has difficulty participating in PE class. When the behavior becomes unmanageable, he or she will be removed from the activity and be given the remaining class time to manager his or her behavior. A form will be sent home with the student and it will need to be signed by a parent or guardian before the student's next class. Thanks for cooperating in my effort to assist students in becoming terrific sportsmen. Benching will only apply to students grade 3-6.

In-Class Injuries

Students who receive minor injuries (scrapes, bruises, light bumps) in class will be treated with "common sense" first aid (ice packs, band-aids, etc.). More serious injuries will result in the student being sent to the school's administrative offices for further assessment and observation. In this event, the student's parent will be notified via telephone.

Class Participation Policy & Outside Injuries

All students are required to participate in their scheduled physical education sessions unless they are injured, ill or absent from school.

If a student receives an injury outside of class which requires them to abstain from a physical education session or activity, a written note or phone call from the student's legal guardian is required as per school policy.

"Poor Sportsmanship" zero tolerance policy

The ultimate goal of the St. Katherine Drexel physical education program is to provide a safe and fun environment for students. As an instructor, I realize that accidents happen and students get excited, particularly during a high-energy class like Phy. Ed. however, the following behaviors will result in an automatic removal from the day's activities, (or for an extended period of time as deemed appropriate by the instructor and the school's administration). This includes:

  • Physical violence of any kind, including over-aggressive play or "ganging up" on a student.

  • Inappropriate langauge, including swearing, name-calling, or threatening directed at either another student or the instructor.

  • Insubordination or inability to follow the teacher's instructions or rules.

  • Refusal to wear proper attire or shoe wear as per class policy.

  • Cheating or competing dishonestly.
